Merchants shouted in crowded markets. Ships from Egypt and Phoenicia unloaded their cargo. Sailors argued over prices while traders counted silver coins beneath the fading light of the sun. And above the noise of trade and conversation, a man stood looking out at the sea. His name was Thales
