Liza and Carl headed to Kyoto’s most historic landmark: Nijo Castle. Built in 1603, it was the residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo period, is famous for its ornate interiors, beautiful gardens, and its ‘nightingale floors’ — wooden floors that chirp like birds when walked upon, designed to alert residents to intruders. It's also famous for its preserved wooden doors, each adorned with intricate artwork depicting flowers, birds, and seasonal scenes. The castle’s sprawling g
