We support EPUB, PDF, DOCX, and TXT files. EPUB works best because it preserves chapter structure. PDFs are extracted using text parsing (scanned PDFs without embedded text are not supported). Maximum file size is 50MB.

For EPUB files, chapters are detected automatically from the ebook structure (each HTML file in the EPUB becomes a chapter). For PDF and TXT files, we detect chapters by looking for common patterns like "Chapter 1", "CHAPTER ONE", or numbered headings. You can also manually split text in the preview.

Cost is based on character count and the TTS model you choose. Free models (Kokoro, Piper, MeloTTS, and others) cost nothing. Standard models cost 2 characters per input character, and premium models cost 4 per character. A typical 80,000-word novel is roughly 400,000 characters — that is 400K chars on a free model or 800K on standard.

Processing time depends on the book length and model. Free models like Kokoro are fastest — a typical novel chapter takes 30-60 seconds. Premium models may take 2-5 minutes per chapter. The entire book is processed chapter by chapter in parallel.

Each chapter is generated as a separate MP3 file. You can download individual chapters or all chapters as a ZIP file. This makes it easy to load onto audiobook players, phones, or media libraries.

The current version uses a single voice for the entire book. For multi-voice productions with different characters, use our Audio Studio tool which supports per-section voice assignment.

Free tier users can convert up to 5,000 characters at a time. Signed-in users with credits can convert books up to 500,000 characters (roughly a full novel). For longer works, split the book into parts.

Kokoro (free) offers the best balance of quality and speed for long-form content. For more expressive narration, try CosyVoice 2 or Chatterbox. Tortoise produces the most natural-sounding speech but is slower.

Yes. All audio generated on TTS.ai is yours to use commercially, including for audiobook distribution on platforms like Audible, Google Play Books, and Apple Books. Our models use permissive open-source licenses (MIT, Apache 2.0).

We extract and display the book title and chapter names from the ebook metadata. The downloaded audio files are named by chapter for easy organization.

No limit on the number of books. The only constraint is your available characters. Free tier gets 5,000 daily characters. Paid plans range from 200,000 (Lite, $5/mo) to 10,000,000 (Business, $99/mo) characters per month.
