I woke at 3:12 a.m. to my phone buzzing beside me in the dark. A message from an unknown number read, “Don’t look behind you.” I laughed, then another came: “I’m in your house.” My chest tightened. The door creaked open slowly. “I can see you,” it said. My hands shook as I turned toward my closet. It was already open. The darkness inside felt alive. One last message appeared: “Turn around.” I did, and realized I wasn’t alone anymore. Then my phone buzzed again, closer this time, right behind me.
