“Two hundred fifty years ago this July, something unknown to history happened. A rebellion against a great military power was led, not by desperate and hungry men. And not by men who had nothing to lose. On July 4, 1776 fifty-six brave men picked up quill and ink and gave meaning to a conflict that was already raging. These were prosperous men, and they acted out of duty to others. They had nothing to gain.
