At least, I don’t think I was. Every step I took away from them felt heavier than the last, yet somehow more honest. I wasn’t chasing anything I could name. Not food. Not shelter. Not even freedom, not in the way others would understand it. I think… I just needed to know if there was something beyond the path laid out for me.
