Long ago, in the land of Israel, two great armies stood facing each other. On one side were the Israelites, God’s people. On the other side were their enemies, the Philistines. Between them was a wide valley, quiet and tense, as both armies waited. Every morning and every evening, something frightening happened. From the Philistine camp came a giant. His name was Goliath. Goliath was huge—much taller than any man in Israel. He wore heavy bronze armor that covered his chest and legs. A bronz
