Introduction This essay will examine the representation of gender in Barry Jenkins' Moonlight (2016) and Chaucer's The Wife of Bath's Prologue and Tale (c.1392). It will do this by looking at three themes: power and authority, the performance of gender, and sexuality. These themes will be explored in both texts together, comparing how each one deals with the same idea. The first section will look at how power works in relation to gender in both texts — who holds it, who is denied it, and how th
