1. Duke Vincent's Voluntary Abdication The ruler of Vienna, Duke Vincent, was unmarried despite his advanced age. Being a benevolent person, he could not severely punish anyone for any serious offense. The Duke knew very well that this mental weakness of his was not conducive to the administration of the state.
