My mother-in-law suddenly told me I couldn’t come on the family trip. She said, “Son-in-law aren’t part of the family, so you should stay home.” I just said, “Okay.” My wife Ella and I have been married for two years, and her family does this lakehouse trip every summer. This year I actually took time off work, bought a new grill, prepped everything because I thought maybe this would be the year her mom finally accepted me. Then the morning we’re leaving, she drops that on me. I looked at Ella,
