The year 1942 represented the decisive shift in German grand strategy that ultimately secured victory. Recognizing that the Soviet Union could not be knocked out by a single blow, Hitler and the OKW (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht) altered their objectives.
Instead of a repeat of the multi-pronged offensive of Barbarossa, the 1942 Summer Offensive (Case Blue) focused on a singular strategic goal: resources.
The objective was the Caucasus oil fields. Hitler famous
