Pain exploded in Sarah’s side. She gasped, stumbling forward as her legs nearly gave out. “Jessie—!” she cried, her voice breaking. He turned just in time to catch her before she fell. “I’ve got you,” he said urgently, pulling her arm over his shoulder. “I’m hit,” she whispered, her face pale. “I know,” he said, his voice tight. “Just stay with me.”
