Jessie hesitated for half a second. Then nodded. “I won’t be far.” He turned and stepped back into the bush. The moment he did, everything felt louder. Every bird call. Every leaf movement. Every breath. Jessie didn’t wander this time. He was searching. Focused. “I need medicine,” he muttered under his breath. That was the only thing that mattered now. He moved along the edge of the bush line, staying low, keeping to shadowed areas between trees and rock.
