In August of 2020, a massive series of fires broke out across Northern California in what became known as the LNU Lightning Complex — a disaster on a scale the region had only seen five times before in its history. Sparked by a combination of thousands of lightning strikes, a record-breaking heat wave, and powerful winds sweeping across the state, the complex grew rapidly and ultimately burned more than 363,000 acres.
