The First Question
On a quiet evening sometime in the 6th century BCE, along the western coast of Anatolia, waves rolled slowly against the harbor walls of a wealthy Greek city.
Merchants shouted in crowded markets. Ships from Egypt and Phoenicia unloaded their cargo. Sailors argued over prices while traders counted silver coins beneath the fading light of the sun.
And above the noise of trade and conversation, a man stood looking out at the sea.
His name was Thales
