The record label rejected it, and bassist Cliff Burton responded, “Just kill ’em all,” which ultimately gave the album its name. Ride the Lightning This was the first album where the band began experimenting with ballads, most notably on the track “Fade to Black,” which many thrash metal fans at the time took very badly.
