I should’ve ignored it. But I didn’t. I knocked back. Silence. Then— BANG. BANG. BANG. The wall shook. Something answered. Harder. Closer. I stepped back, heart racing. That’s when I heard it. Breathing. Right behind the wall. Wet. Slow.
