Introduction Sound is the invisible structure of documentary storytelling. While image delivers immediate visual information, sound works beneath the surface, shaping emotion, establishing space, and guiding audience interpretation. Taking on the role of sound lead for a documentary exploring a Malayali community in the UAE required me to approach sound not as a technical add-on, but as a central storytelling system designed in advance of production. The documentary aimed to capture cultural i
