In 1970, Apollo 13 was supposed to be NASA’s third mission to land humans on the Moon. But things didn’t go as planned. Just two days after launch, an oxygen tank in the spacecraft exploded. Astronauts Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise suddenly lost power, heat, and most of their oxygen supply. With their main spacecraft damaged, they had to cancel the Moon landing. Instead, they moved into the lunar module, using it as a lifeboat to survive. Back on Earth, NASA engineers worked nonstop t
