Chapter 1: The Key Under the Loose Floorboard Ray was the kind of boy who noticed things other people stepped over. He noticed the way the moss on the north side of the Great Oak looked like a sleeping cat, and he noticed that the third step of his grandfather’s porch hummed when the wind blew from the east. His grandfather’s house was a drafty museum of "someday." Every room was filled with boxes labeled To Be Sorted, yet no one ever sorted them. After his grandfather passed away
