In a time when the idea of transmitting sound through wires seemed impossible, Bell would sit and tune a tone, saying, "The sound can travel... Listen to how it changes." Edison would look at the device and say, "The shape needs adjusting... If we change the order of the pieces." Bell focuses on the sound. Edison focuses on the shape and experimentation.
