In Invincible, as Mark flies into the hospital room, he finds his father on his deathbed. Mark begs him not to die, but Nolan tells him it's not up to him. Mark asks if he's healing, but Nolan says his heart is too damaged, and because of that, his body can't repair itself anymore. Nolan tells Mark he has to be strong, that everyone needs him now, and that it's time for him to lead the Viltrumites. But Mark says he isn't ready, that he doesn't want to. He says he already lost five years with his
