My dad gambled away all of the tuition money that he and my mom had saved up for me for the last ten years. The summer before I started eighth grade, my parents got into a horrible fight. My dad had called an independent contractor to renovate our bathroom. They deeply desired to leave our city in favor of living in a more peaceful, suburban environment. Since our bedrooms were on the same floor as that bathroom, we were forced to stay in our basement. I spent two months eating, bathing, working
