It was early spring. The kind of early spring where the sun lingers a little longer each evening but the air still carries winter in it. The campus trees were just beginning to grow thin green leaves, and people had started sitting outside again with coffee and laptops. I didn’t do that. I spent most of my time in my dorm room studying. My desk was pushed right up against the window. I lived on the second floor, and from there I could see the small courtyard between the dorm buildings. Students
