Can pilots be afraid of heights? The answer might surprise you You might think it’s impossible, but yes… some pilots do have a fear of heights. Flying a plane is very different from standing on the edge of a tall building. Fear of heights usually happens when someone feels unstable or exposed. In a cockpit, pilots are in a safe, enclosed space, surrounded by instruments that guide the plane. They don’t rely solely on what they see with their eyes. Even pilots with acrophobia can train and use
