Even before the practical application of AI, the speed at which the human brain processes infor-mation and makes decisions was the most important factor in determining who wins or loses a war. It was John Boyd of the US Air Force who first theorized this. Based on his own experience of air combat in the Korean War, Boyd believed that the speed of a pilot’s decision-making, rather than the performance of the fighter aircraft itself, could make the difference between winning and losing a battle.
