In 1987… the “wood grain” Topps set was everywhere. (pauses slightly) But long before Jim Deshaies was Card #2… he was just a kid from Massena, New York— a town so far north… it’s practically in Canada. Growing up in the snow belt… Jim wasn’t a “Future Star” on anyone’s radar. He was a local legend at Massena Central High School… but the scouting trail doesn’t usually lead to the St. Lawrence River. (pauses) After a standout career at Le Moyne College… Jim waited. He’d been drafted by the
