Chapter 7: What They’re Looking For The ground shook before Billy understood why. A deafening crack tore through the air, and the world behind him lit up in orange and black. Heat slammed into him, knocking him forward into the dirt. Dust filled his mouth, his eyes, his lungs. For a moment— there was nothing. No sound. No thought. Then the ringing came.
