For a second, everything held still.

“There!”
Billy’s eyes widened.
He ran.
Branches whipped at his face as he burst through the bush, no longer caring about noise or direction. His feet slammed against the ground, slipping, catching, pushing forward again.
Behind him—
shouting.
“Stop!”
He didn’t.
