The Fruit Salad Example Let’s look at a real-life example. Imagine you are making a fruit salad. You have four fruits to choose from, but you can only pick two. How many different salads can you make? In this case, an Apple and a Banana salad is the exact same thing as a Banana and an Apple salad. If we count them all, we find there are 6 possible combinations. This is the beauty of combinations: it simplifies things by ignoring the order.
