On 23 May 2017, the terrorist organization Daulah Islamiyah–Maute Group, led by Omar Maute and Isnilon Hapilon, launched a coordinated assault in Marawi City, sparking the historic Battle of Marawi. The attack caused widespread destruction across the city and resulted in the mass displacement of thousands of residents. In response, the battalion was the first Army engineer unit deployed, providing immediate support to maneuver units to maintain the operational tempo of ground forces. Assigned to
