Miles Deon Carver was born in 1984 in the Morrisania section of the Bronx — eight blocks from the 40th Precinct. His father drove MTA buses out of the Eastchester depot for thirty-one years. His mother worked as a home health aide, picking up double shifts on weekends, sometimes three clients in a single day. They lived in a two-bedroom on East 167th Street. Miles shared a room with his younger brother until he left for college.
