She was still weak.
But breathing steadier now.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
The cave was quiet again.
Too quiet.
Then Jessie glanced over at the wolf.
He stood slowly and walked over to it, studying it for a second.
“We can’t waste this,” he said.
Sarah looked at him, not fully understanding at first.
Then she did.
Food.
Jessie nodded slightly, more to himself than to her.
“We’ll need it.”
Time passed slowly after that.
