leveland’s law department spent more than $270,000 fighting a wrongful conviction lawsuit, and it won. Now, the city wants its money back. Assistant Cleveland Law Director Matthew Aumann asked U.S. District Judge David Ruiz on Tuesday to order that Ru-El Sailor pay the city $274,000, the amount it paid for outside attorneys and for costs that city attorneys accumulated during the six years the lawsuit was pending. Sailor spent 15 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. But Ruiz last month
