Pāhonoa te oro

Greek civilization was born between the sea and time. Its origins lie in the islands of the Aegean Sea, more specifically in the Cyclades and Crete, between approximately 3000 and 1100 BC. It was there that peoples of Indo-European descent from the steppes of Central Asia settled. In Crete, the Minoan culture developed, so named because of Minos, the king of Crete who, according to mythology—in the myth of Perseus and the Minotaur—ordered the construction of a labyrinth to house the Minotaur.
