Pāhonoa te oro

Start by gently placing the sterile saline–soaked gauze over the drain exit site to soften any dried exudate. Then, using another saline–soaked gauze, gently wipe along the external portion of the drain tube to remove any discharge. Next, use the chlorhexidine–soaked gauze to gently clean the surrounding skin in outward circular motions, followed by povidone-iodine for additional antiseptic coverage. Always avoid scrubbing the tube or tissue, and never flush the drain.
