In 1846, a pirate ship follows a merchant vessel until it's close enough for the pirates to attack. A man rushes to ring the bell to alert his crew, and the pirates shoot him down. After hearing the bell, Captain Boden gets his gun and orders his men to burn the log book. Half of the pirates stay on deck to fight the men they find there, shooting them or throwing them into the water.
