It was a custodian gig at a funeral home graveyard shift, part-time, decent hourly rate. I'd actually been inside that place before, for a couple of services over the years. Small chapel, a side room with extra seating, a hallway lined with bathrooms and offices. I knew the layout. I figured that familiarity would keep the nerves in check. I was wrong.
The first three nights were fine. Quiet, yeah uncomfortably quiet but manageable. Just me, a mop, and the hum of fluorescent lights. I'd put in
