A lot of them were starving out in the field, so they’d secretly trade their own bullets to local traders just to get a little bread. Sounds crazy, right? But there was a big problem. Those same bullets could easily end up being sold to the enemy… and eventually be fired right back at them.
So the soldiers came up with a strange trick.
