The war between United Kingdom and Zanzibar entered the Guinness World Records as the shortest armed conflict in history. It took place on August 27, 1896.
It all began after the death of the sultan who had been supported by the British. According to an agreement, the new ruler had to be approved by Britain, but Prince Khalid bin Barghash decided not to wait for permission. He seized the palace and declared himself sultan.
