I kept hearing one idea in political science classes: globalization makes the state weaker. And honestly, I get why people say that. Countries trade more. Companies cross borders. Supply chains stretch across the world. So it can look like governments are losing control. But this news story made me think the opposite. Today, I’m looking at a New York Times article by Javier Hernández called “China Amps Up Pressure on Japan With Restrictions on Exports.” The article focuses on China’s decision to
