The Whiskey Sour dates back to the mid-1800s. Sailors in the British Navy mixed spirits with lemon juice to prevent scurvy. Eventually, bartenders refined the formula — spirit, citrus, and sugar — creating what became known as the ‘Sour’ family of cocktails. The first written record of the Whiskey Sour appeared in 1862 in The Bartender’s Guide by Jerry Thomas — often called the father of American mixology. Since then, it has remained one of the most beloved classic cocktails in the world.
