In August of 2020, a massive series of fires broke out across Northern California in what became known as the LNU Lightning Complex — a disaster on a scale the region had only seen five times before in its history. Sparked by a combination of thousands of lightning strikes, a record-breaking heat wave, and powerful winds sweeping across the state, the complex grew rapidly and ultimately burned more than 363,000 acres. It became the sixth largest fire complex in California history.
